"We (Social Work at UEL and Enlighten Theatre Workshop) have been working together supporting students to prepare for their first practice learning placements,  we do this via what we know as the actor/lived experience interviews.  I thoroughly enjoy  working with Enlighten Theatre Workshop  as Amanda and the actors take time to fully understand the fine nuances of what exactly I want during these interviews, whilst also offering their invaluable insights and expertise.  Even though we have been working together for a significant number of years, the team of actors bring new fresh perspective to each interview, and not only does the student who is engaged with the interview benefit, the small group observing their peer engage in the interview also, further learning from watching each other engage in the interview.  I love the partnership we have developed, which allows for open, clear. flexible communication and a co-creation of each event.  Qualities important to me, are professionalism, reliability, accountability, partnership - which entails a creative evolving dance, each year striving to further enhance and enrich the experience, based on what we learnt from the previous event.  I like finding new horizons in each of the events in the way we introduce the case studies to the students - and every time the actors can step into the new requests.  It is truly a highlight of my year, and we have such fun in the co-creation of these events - it is a true partnership"

“I was a bit apprehensive because of how I will react to the scenarios or other people there. Will I behave normally or will I start stammering, go red? I thought normal training where you just write something, watch something, would be better. I was wrong.”

“You learn by looking at how other people cope. And this helps you.”

“I found it was really helpful to be person-to-person, to see people reacting.”

“Initially I was not looking forward to it, it’s not in my wheelhouse, but I enjoyed it, it was very useful. Learning to be calm, vocal tone, key phrases… they’re the main things I learned.”

"The actor was very professional and created a calm environment which calmed me too, and the experience made me face the real world I will face out their in the field in future. It was a good experience and very beneficial."

"The actors were friendly and helped ease the nerves of the students they were working with. They encouraged the students to stay calm and engaged in the moment. On numerous occasions, I was genuinely surprised at how the actors portrayed the same characters in completely different styles each time they approached the scenarios."

"The actor was very professional, it really felt like a real life situation, they made me feel confident, and they gave great feedback.  The  experience made me  less anxious and was such a good way to see my areas of development."
